Top Songs of 2022

It's the end of the first quarter of 2022, and although the year still has a lot in stock, we have started receiving a good share of music already!

You will agree with me that the music industry has been a bit uneventful in the last three months. Well, the first quarter is always like that across industries. Everyone is resting from all the noise and stress of the end of the year festivities. Everyone is starting afresh on a new slate. In the music industry, quietness is a good thing because it doesn’t indicate a lack of talents. Rather it means everyone is busy in the studio, cooking something good.

The koko of the matter is that this playlist might not be as long as you expect, but it’s only been three months now. We can be sure this list will grow as we run through the year. For now, here are the top songs so far.

Trabaye -Asake ft Olamide

ODG -Eltee Skhillz

Omo ope -Asake ft Olamide

Calm down -Rema

High -Adekunle Gold ft Davido

No Wahala -1da Banton ft Kizz Daniel & Tiwa Savage

Attention -Omah Lay ft Justin Bieber

IDG -Asa ft Wizkid

Trouble -Basketmouth ft 2baba & Blaqbonez

Mercy -Adekunle Gold

Which of the above song is on your playlist? We know the best of 2022 is yet to come, but the songs here are not a bad way to start the year. Here at Epoh Music, we can’t wait to see how it will go down in Q2. But in the meantime, we have a small piece of advice for you, rest and enjoy the flow.

Lyrics vs Melody - who are you?

Most of us enjoy music. In fact, I would say everyone enjoys music, but for a few troubled people around us. Please give them a hug if you know one, because honestly, we are crazy about music over here at Epoh Music. And we cannot begin to imagine how hard life must be without music.

Back to the gist, people love music differently, and that is ok. Everyone has different things they enjoy in music. For some, it is the lyrics. They want the words to speak to them, to express their thoughts. They want the words to give them strength and bring healing and comfort to them. Honestly, this is not too much to demand. And for people like this, no matter how popular or recommended a song is, the quality of lyrics are not negotiable for them.

For team melody, it how pleasing the sound is to the ears. How every word rhymes and the beat compliments the strings. It is about the tempo, how fast or how slow. And these are people you find listening to the same type of songs, maybe different artists, but the same style of music. Because what they are looking for is the sound that soothes their ears. However, it is not that they don’t listen to the lyrics. It is that they care less. They can dance-off to a song that has little or no meaning lyrically as long as the song is ‘interesting’.

However, they are not the only ones with shortcomings. Team lyrics can listen to any song as long as the lyrics speak to them. The song could be so toneless it gets you angry. The melody could make you consider hiring people to beat the artist, but none of that matters to them.

The lyric people and melody people are constantly at loggerhead because one can seem to understand the other’s choice of song.

So my question is, which one are you? Have you ever considered what you really enjoy in music?

If you have never considered it, now is a great time to start. You should take a look at your playlist and the type of songs you have there. Music is so close to us and unites us. It is a universal language that connects us. The lyrics and melody are like speaking dialects of the same language, and that only results in a communication breakdown. Understanding people’s choice of music helps us respect their choice without making a final judgement on their character based on their preferred music.

Whichever one is for you, Epoh Music has an array of music that suits your style. Get started -Register

Epoh Music International Women’s Month Playlist

It’s still the month of March, and we are still taking every day to celebrate women and their contributions to the advancement of society. Music industries all around the world have continued to experience increased female participation, and the Nigerian music industry is, of course, not left out.

However, today I want us to not only celebrate women but also celebrate songs that celebrate women, songs about women empowerment and create awareness about women-only issues. The importance of having female participation in music is not so that we can have the same number of male and female artists. It is rather about having music that can stir up conversations about women-only issues and celebrate female uniqueness based on their firsthand experiences. We have more than enough songs that demean and sexualize women to validate the last point.

So in honour of International Women’s Month, here is a playlist of songs celebrating Women, their roles and their achievements in our society.

Woman - Simi

Ekundayo - TY Bello

So Beautiful - Asa

The Best You Can Be -Omawunmi

Strong Woman - Yemi Alade, Waje, Victoria Kimani

Martha -Chidinma

So Inspired - Waje ft Muna

Wonder Woman -Yemi Alade

Celia's Song - Tiwa Savage

But we’ve not had it all bad from the boys too. Here are a few songs from male artists celebrating women. Some of them have gone on to become classics even in women-only spaces.

Ada Ada - Flavour

Woman - Tekno

Wonder woman - Davido

Virtuous woman -Flavour

Obim -Timi Dakolo

You will agree with me these are all songs for every season because the celebration of women cannot be confined to a day or even a month. Why not create a playlist on Epoh Music today? It will definitely come in handy whenever you are feeling extra thankful for the women in your life.

Happy International Women's Day

There isn’t a time when women should not be celebrated, but the month of March, especially, reminds us to stop and take stock of how far women have come in stepping into the lights.

Music has never been gender-specific. Women have great voices as much as men, and women enjoy music as much as men. This has, however, not stopped the music Industry from being male-dominated in the past. The entertainment industry, in particular, is believed to give an unhealthy level of exposure to women.

While this is true, it is only possible when we don’t have enough women protecting women and creating safe spaces for women in music. Thankfully this is becoming a fading narrative because we now have women who have paved the path for a younger generation of female artists to follow. They broke the bias of success and have gone on to have celebrated music careers, despite the challenges.

Some of them have gone ahead to use their platform to raise awareness on domestic abuse, whose primary victims are women and children, cultural abuse, women’s rights and the need to encourage women’s participation.

On this occasion of International women’s day, we at Epoh Music honour these brave queens for their contributions to women’s advancement. We throwey salute o!

Happy International Women’s Day
