Burna Boy sets the record straight on songwriting: "Nobody fit write for odogwu"

Burna Boy recently addressed speculation and rumors about his songwriting process.

Taking to Twitter, the Nigerian superstar whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, emphasized his involvement in creating his music, asserting that he writes his songs himself.

The Grammy-winning artist has faced various rumors throughout his career, including doubts about his songwriting abilities.

These rumors have been fueled by the songwriting credits officially given to other musicians on Burna Boy's songs.

The musician made it clear that the credits are a westernized style, as those musicians are producers and not writers of his songs.

"Any name you see credited on my songs are only producers of the songs or featured artists, not writers. But for some reason, the western world considers producers as writers of the instrumentals and they just throw their names on them as writers. Nobody fit write for Odogwu," he said.

However, famous controversial X user, Daniel Regha reminded Burna of his revelation in the past about how Peruzzi wrote one of his songs.

"Burna this was u in 2020 giving credit to Peruzzi as a songwriter, but all of a sudden nobody writes for u? For the record no-one gets songwriting credit unless they co-wrote or contributed to writing the song, so ur statement isn't valid," Daniel wrote.

Burna Boy's declaration highlights his commitment to artistic integrity. He explained that his music is deeply personal and often reflects his experiences, emotions, and worldview. This level of personal involvement in his songwriting ensures that his music remains genuine and relatable to his audience. Burna Boy's distinctive style and unique sound are products of his creative vision and dedication to his craft.

The Creative Process

Burna Boy shared insights into his creative process, revealing that he often draws inspiration from his environment, personal experiences, and the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of authenticity in his music, stating that writing his songs allows him to maintain a direct connection with his fans. This connection is evident in the emotional depth and lyrical complexity of his work.

Industry Practices

The music industry is known for its collaborative nature, with many artists working with songwriters and producers to create hit songs. While this practice is widespread and accepted, Burna Boy's insistence on writing his own music sets him apart. It showcases his dedication to maintaining control over his artistic output and preserving the integrity of his music.

Impact on Fans

Burna Boy's fans have always appreciated his honesty and authenticity. His recent statements have only strengthened their admiration for him. Many fans have taken to social media to express their support and admiration for Burna Boy's commitment to his craft. They appreciate knowing that the music they love is a true reflection of the artist's mind and soul.

Conclusion

Burna Boy's affirmation that he writes his music not only sets the record straight but also reinforces his status as a genuine and talented artist. In an industry where authenticity can sometimes be overshadowed by commercial interests, Burna Boy's dedication to his songwriting stands as a testament to his integrity and passion for music.
