Tiwa Savage declares herself the 'Big 1' amid Big 3 conversation

Tiwa Savage says she is the Big 1 in the Nigerian music industry

Tiwa Savage declares herself the Big 1 when asked about her position in the industry’s "Big 3" conversation.

iskfdThe "Big 3" term—adopted this year to represent the top three music artists within a particular country's music scene—has sparked debate in both the international and African music spaces, where many fans discuss which artists truly lead the industry.

During a recent interview on The Beat FM, the interviewer asked, Do you feel like you’re to be a part of the big 3 conversation?

Tiwa set the record straight, saying, "If we were to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I’m the Big 1."

With a career spanning over a decade, Tiwa Savage has consistently broken barriers, from dominating African charts to securing her place on global platforms.

However, her blatant declaration has sparked conversation on social media

"She's not lying, looking at the music industry in Nigeria there aren't a single female that can go toe to toe with Tiwa," a Twitter user wrote.

Another said, "Aunty Tiwa claiming No1 spot but no female artiste has been brought to stardom through her."

Timaya - 'You need a lot of money to promote music'

Timaya opens up about skyrocketing costs in the music industry

Nigerian singer Timaya recently shed light on the growing financial challenges artists face in the music industry today.

In a candid interview, the artist reflected on the Nigerian economy and how it's affected the cost of promoting music.

"Currently, you need a lot of money to promote music. Before, we didn’t even bother about shooting music videos. Even if we were shooting a video, it cost just N1.5 million," Timaya explained, highlighting the relatively low production costs artists used to enjoy.

However, the music landscape has changed dramatically. Now, producing a single music video can cost between N50 million and N100 million.

"Just to shoot one video: 100 million, 50 million, 60 million. And when you shoot the video, to promote it, you need more millions," he emphasized, pointing out that promotion requires as much investment as production itself.

This financial burden is impacting artists’ booking fees as well.

Timaya noted, "That’s why booking fees for artists now are expensive," revealing that the high cost of creating and promoting content has led to a rise in performance rates.

As the music industry becomes more competitive, Timaya's comments shed light on the financial pressures that artists must navigate to stay relevant in today’s fast-paced entertainment world.

"I don't beef wack niggas! We all know he's wack! No talent!" Wizkid tweeted, escalating the tension between the two stars.

Adding fuel to the fire, Wizkid also took a jab at Governor Adeleke of Osun State, Davido’s uncle, who is well-known for his signature dance moves.
