Ayra Starr bags international nod

Nigerian singer and Afropop star Ayra Starr has earned a nomination for World Artist of the Year at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, underscoring her growing impact on the global music stage.

The award, which recognises artists whose music resonates worldwide, puts Ayra in the running alongside international acts including Jackson Wang, JO1, Moliy, and South Africa’s Tyla, last year’s winner in the category.

The 2026 ceremony returns to Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Ludacris hosting a star-studded night celebrating the year’s top-played music across iHeartMedia radio stations and digital platforms.

Fans also have a chance to vote in exciting categories like Favorite TikTok Dance, Best Music Video, Favorite Debut Album, and more.

This year’s event promises unforgettable moments, with performances from Taylor Swift, Kehlani, Lainey Wilson, Alex Warren, RAYE, and a historic joint set from TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue.

Special awards will also be presented, including the iHeartRadio Innovator Award to Miley Cyrus, the Landmark Award to Ludacris, and the Icon Award to John Mellencamp.

For Ayra Starr, this nomination is a testament to her meteoric rise in the Afropop scene and her ability to capture fans beyond Nigeria’s borders.

With her signature blend of catchy hooks and soulful vocals, she continues to prove that African music is making a powerful mark on the world stage.

The 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards broadcast live on FOX tonight, March 26, at 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT, where fans will finally see who takes home the coveted World Artist of the Year award.
