Qing Madi breaks silence after Spotify takedown, accuses former label boss of sabotage

Qing Madi drags ex-label boss

Nigerian singer Qing Madi has publicly accused her former label boss, Joy Tongo, of orchestrating efforts to derail her career after several tracks from her Barely Legal EP suddenly disappeared from Spotify.

The 19-year-old singer addressed the situation during an emotional TikTok Live session on Wednesday night, where she alleged that the ongoing dispute with her former management has gone far beyond business disagreements.

Speaking candidly to fans, Qing Madi claimed that Tongo engaged in a series of actions that negatively affected her career, including alleged forgery and attempts to remove her music from streaming platforms.

"She stole from me. She did a bunch of weird things, forging my signature… there are things I don't want to mention here so I don't get emotional," Madi said during the livestream.

The singer also referenced a legal battle between them, claiming that Tongo sued her for $2 million but was unsuccessful.

"She sued me for $2 million and she lost the case," she stated, adding that because she was still a minor at the time, her mother had to be involved in the court proceedings.

According to Qing Madi, the disappearance of songs from Barely Legal is not the first challenge she has faced regarding her music catalogue.

She revealed that her song Pepper Me was previously removed from Spotify before being restored after her team successfully challenged the takedown.

"You took down 'Pepper Me', I said alright, bet. After we proved it was an illegal takedown, they went through the corners to take down this project," she said. "What in the world is the problem? How are you fighting with a kid?"

The singer's latest comments come months after she first raised concerns publicly.

In April, she accused her former label of trying to frustrate her career and compared her experience to that of Cynthia Morgan, who famously had a public fallout with the same management years ago.

At the time, Madi wrote: "My ex label, the same people that tried to destroy Cynthia Morgan, are trying to do the same to me."

However, Joy Tongo has strongly denied the allegations.

Responding via Instagram Stories, she challenged several of Madi's claims and maintained that the legal dispute between them has not been concluded.

Tongo also disputed Madi's assertion that she had won a court case against her, writing: "What case have you won? Because last time I checked, the case still hasn't gotten to trial."

The music executive further suggested that existing legal proceedings are more complex than the singer has portrayed, insisting that the issues surrounding the Spotify removals are tied to ongoing unresolved matters.
