Music And Your Mental Health

There is a song for every moment. There is a song for every feeling. And that is why music will continue to be an important part of life. Whatever we are going through, there is at least one song that can help us through that moment.

Because of the demands of the world we live in, there is an increased need to pay attention to our mental health. We cannot afford to break down. And if we do break down, we cannot afford to be like that for long.

As part of our contribution to mental health awareness, I have decided to share how music improves our mental well-being.

Here you go

Reduces stress: stress is a leading cause of mental disorders. WHEN stressed, the body can break down mentally and even physically. And since we cannot always control what we are exposed to, more often than not, we will find ourselves in stressful situations. Listening to music greatly reduces stress. Even with the same amount of tasks to be done or under the same conditions, music makes it easier to get by.

Fosters healing: music speaks to the soul. When healing from a traumatic experience, listening to music can help us heal faster.

Improves mood -music can lighten you up on your worst days or when you feel at your lowest. The right lyrics and the right melody can go a long way to take your mind off something that can trigger you or at least help you cope with that trigger.

Reduces symptoms of depression: when we experience prolonged and lethal levels of sadness, we descend into the black hole of depression. Music can draw us out. It can even stop us from ever ending up in that hole. Some songs motivate you and give you hope. It just seems as though the singer was talking to you directly.

Aids relaxation: after a long day, music helps you relax and enjoy your environment.

Help you sleep better: I'm sure you have heard of 'lullaby' before. Music is good at helping you sleep, and it works for people of all ages.

Music goes beyond what we hear. It is not just a combination of sounds we dance to or enjoy, it is medicine for the soul.
